The 2021 college football betting action goes on with Week 9 matchups Saturday, October 30, so we’re taking a closer look at the Pac-12 Conference from Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe, Arizona, to get you the best Washington State vs. Arizona State betting pick and odds.

These two schools meet each other for the first time since October 12, 2019, when Arizona State outlasted Washington State as a 2-point home dog, 38-34. The Sun Devils are 15-point home favorites this time around, while the totals are set at 52.5 points on Bookmaker Sportsbook.

Washington State stopped its winning streak in Week 8

The Washington Cougars (4-4; 5-3 ATS) are coming off a narrow 21-19 home loss to the BYU Cougars this past Saturday. They put an end to a three-game winning streak but still got their fifth ATS victory in a row.

The Cougars failed to cope with BYU’s ground game, allowing 238 rushing yards (5.0 per carry). On the other side, they racked up just 93 rushing yards in a return, while sophomore QB Jayden de Laura tossed for 257 yards and an interception.

De Laura now has 15 TD passes and six interceptions on the season. Washington State scores 24.9 points per game (tied-91st in the country) on 109.4 rushing yards (114th) and 263.3 passing yards (39th). The Cougars’ defense ranks 65th in points allowed (25.1), 86th in rushing yards (166.4), and 64th in passing yards (225.4).

Arizona State is coming fresh off a bye

As well as their next rivals, the Arizona State Sun Devils have put an end to their three-game winning streak last time out. Back in Week 7, the Sun Devils suffered a 35-21 defeat at the Utah Utes and fell to 5-2 SU and 3-4 ATS on the season.

Arizona State had a 14-point halftime lead in Salt Lake City, but the Sun Devils fell apart in the second half and surrendered 28 unanswered points to the Utes, who finished with 455 total yards and 29 1st downs.

Junior QB Jayden Daniels had a couple of TD passes against Utah. He’s tossed for 1,506 yards, six touchdowns, and three interceptions so far this season. The Sun Devils are scoring 31.6 points per game (45th) on 204.9 rushing yards (30th) and 229.9 passing yards (73rd). They are yielding 18.9 points in a return (22nd) on 133.1 rushing yards (44th) and 190.7 passing yards (23rd).

Trends:

Washington State:

  • 1-5 ATS in the last six games against Arizona State
  • 1-3 ATS in the last four outings as double-digit underdogs

Arizona State:

  • 5-0 ATS in the last five home games against Washington State

Washington State vs. Arizona State Pick

The Sun Devils have covered the spread in their last two showings as double-digit favorites, outlasting Colorado 35-13 and Stanford 28-10. They’ve won all four home contests in 2021 by an average margin of 23.5 points.

Hereof, I’m backing the hosts to win and cover a 15-point spread. The Cougars lean on their passing offense, and the Sun Devils’ secondary has done an excellent job so far this season. On the other side, Washington State will struggle to deal with the Sun Devils’ rushing.

Pick: Take Arizona State -15.0 at -110

The Total:

Although the over has hit in four of the last five encounters between Washington State and Arizona State, I’m not looking for a high-scoring affair this time around. The Sun Devils will rush as much as they can and eat the clock, while their defense should have enough firepower to keep the Cougars below 20 points.

The under is 7-1 in Arizona State’s last eight outings as a double-digit favorite, and it is 5-1 in Washington State’s previous six games overall.

Pick: Go under 52.5 points at -110
