Another college football Saturday is upon us, and the betting action starts at noon PM ET with 15 games around the country, including the non-conference showdown from Michie Stadium in West Point, New York, where the Miami (OH) RedHawks meet the Army Black Knights for the first time since 2018.

Three years ago, the Black Knights barely outlasted the RedHawks as 6.5-point home favorites, 31-30. This time around, they are listed as 7.5-point home favorites on BetOnline Sportsbook, so let’s see what’s the best Miami (OH) vs. Army betting pick for Saturday, September 25, 2021.

The RedHawks trounced Long Island University for their first win in 2021

The Miami (OH) RedHawks (1-2; 1-2 ATS) are coming off a 42-7 thrashing of the Long Island University Sharks in Week 3. They didn’t have any problems bouncing back from a couple of defeats in the first two weeks of the 2021 college football season, racking up 523 total yards against the hapless Sharks and yielding just 215 in a return.

Back in Week 2, the RedHawks fought bravely against Minnesota on the road and covered an 18.5-point spread in a 31-26 defeat. They suffered a heavy 49-14 loss at the No. 8 Cincinnati Bearcats in the opener and failed to cover as 22.5-point road underdogs.

Miami head coach Chuck Martin continues to use two signal-callers, so Brett Gabbert and A.J. Mayer have combined for 640 yards, five touchdowns, and a couple of interceptions so far this term. Freshman RB Keyon Mozee has 35 carries for 125 yards and a TD, while senior WR Jack Sorensen adds 13 receptions for 215 yards and a couple of touchdowns.

The Black Knights aim for their fourth straight victory

The Army Black Knights (3-0; 1-2 ATS) extended their perfect run with a 52-21 home victory over the hapless UConn Huskies in Week 3. They failed to cover a 34.5-point spread, but the Black Knights completely dominated the Huskies, scoring 42 first-half points and racking up 504 total yards while surrendering just 225 in a return.

Senior QB Christian Anderson completed both of his passing attempts for 70 yards and a TD. He also had six carries for 21 yards and a couple of scores, while sophomore RB added three totes for 84 yards and a TD.

Anderson leads the way for the Black Knights in 2021, tossing for three touchdowns and scoring three on his own. Tyrell Robinson has 222 yards from scrimmage and three touchdowns, while junior RB Jakobi Buchanan has 32 totes for 103 yards and four touchdowns.

Miami (OH):

Army:

  • 4-2 ATS in the last six games overall
  • 8-4 ATS in the last 12 outings as favorites

Miami (OH) vs. Army Pick

The Black Knights are 12-0 straight up and 8-4 ATS in their last 12 showings as favorites, and I expect this betting trend to continue Saturday. The RedHawks are giving up 153.3 rushing yards per game and 4.0 per carry, so the visitors will struggle to cope with the Black Knights’ exceptional ground game.

On the other side of the ball, the visitors will try to keep it close on the back of their passing game. The Black Knights’ run D is looking good, but their secondary is a problem. The hosts will look to control the clock, and if they manage to keep Miami’s defense on the field for most of the game, the Black Knights will come out on top.

Pick: Take Army -6.5 at -130

The Total:

The over is 4-1 in Army’s last five outings as favorites, and it is 7-2 in the Black Knights’ previous nine games overall. All their three contests in 2021 produced more than 51 points in total, so betting on the over seems like a way to go in this matchup with Miami (OH).

The RedHawks lean on their passing game and will have enough firepower to score a few runs. Back in Week 2, Army outlasted Western Kentucky 38-35 but surrendered 435 passing yards to the Hilltoppers.

Pick: Go over 51.5 points at -110
