Week 6 of the 2021 college football season goes on Friday, October 8, with three games around the country, including the Conference USA showdown at Riccardo Silva Stadium in Miami, Florida, so we bring you the best Charlotte 49ers vs. FIU Panthers betting pick and odds.

Charlotte is winless in five meetings with Florida International, going 2-2-1 ATS in the process. The 49ers are 3.5-point road favorites for Friday’s clash, while the totals are listed at 58.5 points on MyBookie Sportsbook.

The 49ers failed to cope with the Fighting Illini’s defense

The Charlotte 49ers (3-2; 2-1-2 ATS) are coming off a 24-14 defeat at Illinois in Week 5, playing as 10-point road underdogs. They fought bravely but couldn’t find a way to score in the second half, blowing a four-point lead from halftime.

The 49ers racked up only 272 total yards at Memorial Stadium in Champaign. They had 27 carries for just 81 yards, while senior QB Chris Reynolds went 17-of-23 for 191 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception.

Charlotte was helpless against Illinois’ ground game, surrendering a whopping 336 yards on 50 totes. The 49ers are yielding 24.2 points per game (tied-68th in the country) on 254.8 rushing yards (128th) and 174.8 passing yards (22nd). They are scoring 26.8 points in a return (tied-81st) on 412.6 total yards (59th).

The Panthers are riding a four-game losing streak

The Florida International Panthers (1-4; 2-3 ATS) extended their losing streak to four games last Saturday, suffering a heavy 58-21 defeat as 10.5-point road dogs at Florida Atlantic. FIU failed to score in the second half, while the Owls finished with an incredible 704 total yards on their tally.

The Panthers are now yielding 35.2 points (118th in the nation) on 502.8 total yards (128th). Only six schools have allowed more passing yards than FIU (314.4), and the Panthers have recorded only seven sacks through the first five weeks while forcing a paltry three turnovers.

On the other side of the ball, the Panthers are scoring 26.8 points (tied-81st) on 413.6 total yards per game (58th). Senior QB Max Bortenschlager has tossed for 1,368 yards, ten touchdowns, and four interceptions, while senior RB D’Vonte Price has added 76 carries for 411 yards and six scores.

Trends:

Charlotte:

  • 4-2-1 ATS in the last seven games on the road

FIU:

  • 2-7 ATS in the last nine games overall
  • 1-5 ATS in the last six games at home
  • 0-5 ATS in the last five games played in October

Charlotte vs. FIU Pick

This should be a typical back-and-forth showdown. Both teams have struggled against rushing thus far, especially FIU, while they’ve done a good job in the secondary. The 49ers’ ground game should be an X-factor, as the visitors average 4.7 yards per rush and 176.6 per game.

Anyway, the 49ers haven’t impressed against the spread lately, while the Panthers have been awful, covering only twice in their last nine outings and once in their previous six showings at home. Charlotte is looking for its first win over FIU, and the 49ers are 9-1 straight up in their last ten outings as favorites.

Pick: Take Charlotte -2.5 at -138

The Total:

Four of the last five encounters between the 49ers and Panthers went in the over, as well as eight of FIU’s last ten games overall and five of Charlotte’s last six games against the Conference USA. I will stick with these betting trends, though the under is 4-1 in the 49ers’ last five contests overall.

Both teams can put some decent numbers on the scoreboard. I’ve mentioned how bad they are against rushing, so the 49ers and Panthers shouldn’t have any problems moving the ball against each other. Also, the hosts will have a tall task to slow down the 49ers’ passing game.

Pick: Go over 58.5 points at -110
