The new NBA week starts with a seven-game slate on Monday, January 23, and this conference clash in Portland is one of those games, so make sure you check out the best Spurs vs. Trail Blazers betting pick and odds.

Portland is hoping to avoid the fourth straight defeat when they host San Antonio at Moda Center. The Blazers are -8.5 favorites on Jazz Sportsbook, while the total is set at 241.5 points. These conference rivals have met two times this season, and the Trail Blazers won both games.

Spurs couldn’t come from behind to beat the Clippers

The San Antonio Spurs (14-32, 23-23-0 ATS) did snap a five-game losing skid with an unlikely win over the Brooklyn Nets at home but returned to losing ways as the Los Angeles Clippers celebrated a 131-126 victory in San Antonio. The Spurs concluded a four-game homestay with that loss, which was their ninth in 11 games. The hosts were excellent from the floor (57.3%), but the Clippers were even better as they shot 63.0%. The teams were pretty tied in other segments, but Los Angeles controlled the situation in the final 12 minutes and deservedly got a victory.

Keldon Johnson led the Spurs with 23 points. Zach Collins added 17 points and four assists, Josh Richardson had 17 points and four rebounds, Jeremy Sochan chipped in 16 points and six boards, while Romeo Langford with a 13/6/5 and Jakob Poeltl with an 11/6/4 line also played well for San Antonio.

SG Devin Vassell is out of commission after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his left knee, and he will not return to court until the end of February.

Blazers dropped a massive lead in a loss to the Lakers

The Portland Trail Blazers (21-25, 24-22-0 ATS) are not playing well at the moment. They lost eight of the previous ten games, and the most recent one against the Los Angeles Lakers at home was quite painful. Namely, the Trail Blazers had a 25-point lead at halftime but allowed even 75 points in the second half to succumb to a 121-112 defeat. Portland was better from beyond the arc, making 17 triples opposite Los Angeles’ ten, but the visitors dominated the boards (51-38).

Anfernee Simons led the Blazers with 31 points. Damian Lillard posted a double-double of 24 points and a game-high ten assists along with six rebounds, Jerami Grant had 19 points and four boards, while Josh Hart recorded a double-double of 13 points and ten rebounds with seven dimes and a couple of steals.

SF Justise Winslow (ankle) is idle with a left ankle sprain, and he will not return until the beginning of February.

Trends:

San Antonio:

  • 2-5 ATS in the last seven games playing on two days of rest
  • 4-9 ATS in the last 13 games vs. a team with a losing straight-up record

Portland:

  • 8-3 ATS in the last 11 home games
  • 4-1 ATS in the last five games playing without rest
  • 6-1 ATS in the last seven Monday games

San Antonio Spurs vs. Portland Trail Blazers Pick

The Blazers perhaps play the second game of a back-to-back set, but they have been quite good in those situations this season. This matchup is excellent for them to return to winning ways because they already beat the Spurs twice this year, and I am backing Portland to get another H2H victory on Monday. Jusuf Nurkic had a bad outing against the Lakers and failed to reach double figures in three straight games, all three resulted in losses for Portland. I am backing the big guy to bounce back here and dominate the glass. The Spurs have the weakest defense in the NBA that allows 121.4 points per game, so the Blazers will have no problems scoring a bunch of points here.

Pick: Take the Blazers at -7.5 (-130)

The Total

Except for a pair of home games against the Dallas Mavericks, in which the Blazers erupted offensively with 136 and 140 points, respectively, they have been struggling on offense lately. Portland failed to score more than 113 points in eight of the last ten games, and even though the Blazers are facing the worst defense in the league, I don’t expect them to score 140. Around 120 points is a realistic target, but I am not sure about San Antonio’s contribution, and that’s why I am going with Under. Under is 5-2-1 in the last eight H2H meetings, while Under is 3-0-1 in the previous four H2H duels in Portland.

Pick: Go Under 242.5 points (-130)
