The NCAAB action continues on Monday, January 30, with this conference encounter in Syracuse, and here you can take a look at the best Cavaliers vs. Orange betting pick and odds.

Virginia is searching for the seventh consecutive win when they visit Syracuse at JMA Wireless Dome. The Cavaliers are -4.5 favorites on Bovada Sportsbook, while the total is set at 132 points. These ACC foes met earlier this month, and the Cavaliers won 73-66 at home.

Cavaliers dismantled Boston College at home

The Virginia Cavaliers (16-3, 8-11-0 ATS) continued with fine form as they recorded their sixth straight victory and covered a 15-point spread in a 76-57 home win over the Boston College Eagles. The Cavs shot very well from the floor (50.8%) and limited the visitors to 28.6% from beyond the arc. Virginia also was better in rebounds (33-25), steals (8-5), and forced 16 turnovers while committing 11 on the other end.

Senior guard Armaan Franklin led the cavaliers with 18 points, a game-high seven rebounds, and two steals. Jayden Gardner also scored 18 points with six boards, Isaac McKneely contributed 12 points and four rebounds off the bench, while Reece Beekman had 11 points and game-high eight assists.

Orange didn’t have a chance against Virginia Tech

The Syracuse Orange (13-9, 12-10-0 ATS) suffered the second loss in a row as they allowed a season-high 85 points in an 85-70 road defeat to the Virginia Tech Hokies. It was evident that Syracuse is going to lose this game as the Hokies created a 19-point lead at halftime, and although the Orange was better in the second half and limited the hosts to 33 points, it wasn’t enough to avoid a massive defeat. Syracuse made seven triples opposite Virginia Tech’s 13, while the hosts dominated the boards (37-26) and assists (26-13).

Freshman guard Judah Mintz led the Orange with 21 points and game-high eight assists. Justin Taylor scored 12 points off the bench, while Maliq Brown added 11 points, team-high six rebounds, and two blocks. Even the fact that Syracuse’s bench scored 22 points opposite Virginia Tech’s 12 didn’t help the visitors.

Trends:

Virginia:

  • 4-1 ATS in the last five games overall
  • 4-1 ATS in the last five games following a straight-up win
  • 13-6 ATS in the last 19 Monday games

Syracuse:

  • 6-20 ATS in the last 26 home games vs. a team with a winning road record

Virginia Cavaliers vs. Syracuse Orange Pick

Syracuse has a more efficient offense in terms of points per game as the Orange score 75.0 ppg opposite Virginia’s 70.6 ppg. However, Syracuse’s defense has been leaky and the visitors will know to exploit that given they scored 76+ points in each of their previous three games. The Orange surrendered 72+ in seven of the last eight games, and their defense is allowing 75.0 ppg, so I am backing the Cavaliers to outscore the hosts and display some crucial defensive stops along the way.

Pick: Take the Cavaliers at -4.5 (-110)

The Total

The Cavaliers have the 9th best defense in college basketball that allows 60.1 points per contest, but a combination of Syracuse’s poor defense and the strong offense is enough for me to expect Over in this one. The Orange is usually playing high-scoring games, but it’s important to note that each of Virginia’s previous three games produced 133+ points. Over is 6-2 in the Cavaliers’ last eight overall; Over is 14-4-1 in Virginia’s previous 19 road games, while Over is 12-2 in the Orange’ last 14 overall.

Pick: Go Over 131.5 points (-130)
