Only eight games are on tap on Thursday, September 1, in the MLB, and the action will start with this American League clash, so don’t miss out on the best Mariners vs. Tigers betting pick and odds.

Seattle and Detroit will play the final of a three-game series at Comerica Park, and the Mariners are -160 moneyline favorites on JazzSports Sportsbook, while the total is set at 7.5 runs. These American League rivals haven’t met this season before this series. The Mariners won the opening game of the current series.

Mariners decided the tilt in the first five innings

The Seattle Mariners split the home series with the Washington Nationals and beat the Cleveland Guardians before securing a comfortable 9-3 road victory over the Detroit Tigers in the opening game of the series. Seattle is currently the fourth-best team in the American League, and with some 30 games to go in the regular season, it seems the Mariners will secure a wildcard spot.

The Mariners scored nine runs in the first five innings against the Tigers and could afford to relax a bit in the final two frames. They won 9-3 in the end, mostly thanks to Ty France, Cal Raleigh, and Carlos Santana, who contributed with two RBIs apiece, and each of them hit a home run. George Kirby (6-3) displayed another strong performance and recorded the fourth win in five starts in August. He didn’t allow a single run on two hits with five strikeouts and a walk over 5.0 innings.

Logan Gilbert (10-5) is getting his 27th start of the year when he meets Detroit on Thursday. The 25-year-old right-hander owns a respectable 3.49 ERA, 1.24 WHIP, and 133/41 K/BB ratio across 149.2 innings of work.

Tigers’ response came too late

The Detroit Tigers didn’t lose any of the last four series, and after returning home from a three-game series in Texas, they were thrashed at home by the Mariners. The Tigers won five of seven games before this defeat, but are only a win ahead of the Oakland Athletics at the very bottom of the American League.

Detroit scored three runs in the last two innings against Seattle, but it was too late to make difference as the Mariners built a huge lead in the first half of the tilt. Riley Greene hit an RBI triple and scored a run, while Miguel Cabrera and Kerry Carpenter had a multi-hit game. Matt Manning (1-2) took his second loss of the season after surrendering seven runs on seven hits with just one strikeout and a walk in 2.1 innings.

Eduardo Rodriguez (3-3) will start for the 11th time this year when he faces the Mariners on Wednesday. The 29-year-old lefty carries a 3.60 ERA, 1.36 WHIP, and 41/23 K/BB ratio over 50.0 innings in his first season with the Tigers.

Trends:

Seattle:

  • 4-1 in the last five vs. American League Central opponents
  • 7-2 in the last nine road games vs. a left-handed starter
  • 23-9 in the last 32 road games

Detroit:

  • 3-7 in the last ten home games
  • 3-9 in the last 12 home games vs. a right-handed starter

Seattle Mariners vs. Detroit Tigers Odds Pick

The Tigers are not batting very well against right-handers this season. They have a low .215 batting average with 3.09 runs per nine innings, while the mariners like batting against southpaws. They are .234 BA with 4.32 runs against lefties.

Logan Gilbert is experiencing the worst month of the season as he posted a bloated 6.75 ERA in August, while Eduardo Rodriguez was sublime in his two starts in August with a microscopic 0.82 ERA. However, I am backing Gilbert to bounce back on the first day of September and get his team a win.

Pick: Take the Mariners to win (-160)

The Total

Rodriguez didn’t surrender more than three runs in each of his previous five starts, and I don’t think he will allow more than three here as well. Interestingly, Eduardo never allowed a home run to the Mariners’ batters in 59 at-bats in his career. Under is 5-0 in Gilbert’s last five starts vs. American League Central opponents, while Under is 5-2 in the Mariner’s previous seven overall. Additionally, Under is 8-1-1 in the Tigers’ last ten home games, while Under is 14-6-4 in Detroit’s previous 24 games vs. a right-handed starter.

Pick: Go Under 7.5 runs (-110)
