The college basketball season continues on Monday, January 9, and we have 14 games on schedule including this non-conference tilt, so feel free to check out the best Golden Eagles vs. Lobos betting pick and odds.

Oral Roberts is searching for the 11th consecutive win when they visit New Mexico at The Pit. The Lobos are -4.5 favorites on Jazz Sportsbook, while the total is set at 162.5 points. These non-conference rivals will meet for the first time.

Golden Eagles are unstoppable at the moment

The Oral Roberts Golden Eagles (13-3, 7-5-0 ATS) are the hottest and the only unbeaten team in the Summit Conference. The Golden Eagles (4-0 in conference play) are on a ten-game winning run and their latest victory came against the Kansas City Roos at home. The Roos actually had a chance to snap Oral Roberts’ positive streak as they had a nine-point lead early in the second half and overtime in the bag, but Max Abmas had other plans. Abmas hit a mid-near court buzzer-beating triple to give the Golden Eagles a 74-71 victory.

Max Abmas led Oral Roberts with a season-high 35 points (9-18 FG, 6-12 3PT, 11-11 FT), four rebounds, four assists, and game-high four steals. Connor Vanover added 18 points, a team-high six boards, and two blocks. The bench contributed just four points opposite Kansas City’s 17, but that didn’t hurt the Golden Eagles in the end.

Lobos lost another game

The No. 22 New Mexico Lobos (14-2, 8-6-1 ATS) opened the season with 14 consecutive wins but after the first loss of the campaign to the Fresno State Bulldogs on the road, they lost the next one against the UNLV Rebels at home. The Lobos were up by five at halftime, but the visitors scored 46 points in the second 20 minutes to celebrate an 84-77 victory. New Mexico was better in rebounds (41-31), but the Rebels shot 51.8% from the floor and made eight three-pointers opposite the Lobos’ five.

Senior forward Morris Udeze led the Lobos with a double-double of 22 points and game-high 13 rebounds along with three steals. It was Udeze’s fourth double-double of the year. Jamal Mashburn Jr. followed him with 19 points and Jaelen House chipped in 12 points and game-high four thefts.

Trends:

Oral Roberts:

  • 4-0 ATS in the last four games following an ATS loss
  • 6-2 ATS in the last eight Monday games
  • 18-7-1 ATS in the last 26 road games vs. a team with a winning home record

New Mexico:

  • 1-4 ATS in the last five games following a straight-up loss
  • 4-10 ATS in the last 14 home games vs. a team with a winning road record

Oral Roberts Golden Eagles vs. New Mexico Lobos Pick

Oral Roberts’ magnificent run might end on Monday in New Mexico, but I am pretty sure the Golden Eagles have what it takes to trouble the favored Lobos. The bookies also acknowledged that by giving a slight advantage to the home team, meaning that they believe we could have a bit of a surprise here. Oral Roberts has a better offense thus far; the Golden Eagles average 84.3 points per game, which is the 10th-best offense in the country, while the Lobos score 82.6 ppg. New Mexico does have a stronger D, and that’s why this duel is going to be quite interesting and tight.

Pick: Take the Golden Eagles at +6.5 (-133)

The Total

I mentioned these two high-octane offenses that are combining for nearly 167 points per contest, and I expect to see 165+ in this one. With Mashburn Jr., Udeze, and House on one, and Abmas and Vanover on the other side, you can only expect a high-scoring affair. Over is 5-2 in the Golden Eagles’ last seven overall; Over is 6-0 in the Lobos’ previous six overall, while Over is 6-0 in New Mexico’s last six home games. This one could go down to the wire, but we also cannot exclude potential overtime.

Pick: Go Over 159.5 points (-140)
