The Minnesota Vikings take on the Kansas City Chiefs in the third preseason game for both of these teams. It has not been pretty for Minnesota so far, as they have lost both of their contests. Kansas City has earned victories in both of their preseason affairs.

Kansas City is favored at -4 at Bovada Sportsbook. These teams have split the last six meetings including a 26-23 victory by the Chiefs back on November 3, 2019.

Minnesota Looks to Gain Some Momentum

Most coaches will tell you that preseason games have little to do with how the team will perform during the regular season, but considering the fact that Minnesota finished 7-9 last season losing three of their last four games, there clearly is a sense of urgency that is ensuing. The Vikings were hammered in their first contest of the preseason, losing to Denver, 33-6 before falling to Indianapolis last Saturday, 12-10.

Kirk Cousins threw for 4,265 yards and 35 touchdowns last year, and much will be expected of him this season. Cousins completed five of seven passes for 23 yards against Indianapolis. One area that there needs to be some drastic improvement is in the defense. After giving up 33 points in the preseason opener, the group looked much sharper against Indianapolis. While they did not record a sack against the Colts, they did have two interceptions.

Chiefs Look Like AFC’s Best

The Kansas City Chiefs continue to look like the top team in the conference after earning victories in each of their first two preseason games. They defeated San Francisco in the opener, 19-16, then defeated Arizona last Friday, 17-10. They have produced just enough offense to earn victories, which is primarily due to the fact that Patrick Mahomes has seen very little action. He did throw 18 pass attempts against the Cardinals, completing 10 passes for 78 yards.

One part of the team that looked very impressive is the defense. Chris Jones has looked very impressive and the defense is allowing just 239 yards of total offense on average through the first two games. This will be the final preseason game for both teams and you can be sure Kansas City is going to be looking to remain undefeated.

Minnesota Vikings and Kansas City Chiefs Pick

Minnesota is looking to earn their first victory, and hoping that heading to the road will change their fortunes. Unfortunately, they are facing the defending AFC champions who will be playing their only preseason game at home. The Chiefs are the kind of team who values every victory, even in the preseason, so look for Kansas City to earn a dominant victory thanks to their defense.

Pick: Take Kansas City Chiefs at -4 (-110)

The Total:

While both teams will be playing more of their regulars in this contest, you can also expect that since this is the last preseason game, they will be protecting key players from injuries. That is going to help to keep the score down, which makes the under the right pick. If this was a regular season game, I would definitely be calling the over, but 38.5 points is not going to be achieved in this contest.

Pick: under 38.5 at -110
