The Milwaukee Brewers and San Francisco Giants lock horns on the first day of September to continue their four-game series at Oracle Park in San Francisco. The Brewers edged the Giants in the opener, 3-1, so let’s see what’s the best Milwaukee vs. San Francisco betting pick for the third clash of the set (the second game has been excluded from the analysis).

The Giants are slight favorites for Wednesday night’s clash, according to Bookmaker Sportsbook. They won a three-game set in Milwaukee last month, 2-1, playing as underdogs on all three occasions.

Milwaukee looks unstoppable in the NL Central

The Milwaukee Brewers have won ten of their previous 15 games overall. They are cruising through the NL Central, nine and a half games ahead of the second-placed Cincinnati Reds. Over the last two weeks, the Brewers have scored 54 runs in 13 outings while slashing .239/.324/.387. On the other side of the ball, they’ve registered a solid 3.44 ERA and a .226 batting average against.

Brett Anderson will take the mound Wednesday, and he’s 4-8 with a 4.27 ERA and 1.32 WHIP in 20 starts this term. The 33-year-old lefty has struggled a lot over his previous three outings. He’s yielded a whopping 12 earned runs on 17 hits and six walks across 12.2 innings of work in that stretch.

Anderson met the Giants on August 8 and tossed five innings of a one-run ball in a 5-4 home defeat. He took a no-decision, so Brett is now 2-5 with a 4.36 ERA in 13 career starts against San Francisco. Anderson is just 1-5 with a 4.81 ERA in eight career appearances at Oracle Park.

The Giants are still toping the majors

The San Francisco Giants dropped to 84-47 on the season following that 3-1 loss to the Brewers this past Monday. It was their second loss on the spin and third in the previous four showings, so the Giants were only a game and a half ahead of the LA Dodgers on Tuesday. Their pitching staff continues to impress, posting a 2.75 ERA in the last two weeks of action, but the Giants have recorded a poor .204/.273/.372 batting line in that span.

Kevin Gausman will take the hill Wednesday, and the 30-year-old right-hander is 12-5 with a 2.49 ERA and 1.01 WHIP in 26 starts this season. Gausman had a rough patch in July, but he bounced back with a 3-0 record and a 3.16 ERA through five starts in August.

Last Friday, Gausman took a no-decision in a 6-5 defeat at the Atlanta Braves, throwing six frames of a two-run ball. He’s 1-0 with a 1.59 ERA in a couple of career starts and relief appearances against Milwaukee.

Trends:

Milwaukee:

  • 1-4 in Brett Anderson’s last five starts

San Francisco:

  • 15-6 in the last 21 games overall
  • 4-1 in Kevin Gausman’s last five starts

Milwaukee Brewers vs. San Francisco Giants Pick

I’ve mentioned Brett Anderson’s recent struggles and his poor record at Oracle Park, while the current Giants are slashing .289/.365/.466 in 92 at-bats against the veteran lefty. Hereof, I’m backing the Giants to get things going at the plate and win this game on the back of their offense.

Of course, the Giants will need more of the same from their pitching staff, but finding their offensive groove will be crucial, especially in a favorable matchup like this one.

Pick: Take San Francisco Giants

The Total:

The Giants don’t want to wait for the Brewers ‘pen that has recorded a sparkly 2.06 ERA and 3.24 FIP over the last two weeks. They’ll look to score some runs early, as Milwaukee’s relievers have been outstanding for most of the season, though we saw a couple of crazy games between the Brewers and Giants in August.

The Giants bullpen has done a good job in the past two weeks, too, recording a 3.07 ERA and 3.04 FIP. Therefore, betting on the under is a logical choice.

Pick: Go under
