The opening day of the Division Series in the MLB will continue with this ALDS matchup in New York on Tuesday, October 11, so feel free to read the best Guardians vs. Yankees betting pick and odds.

Cleveland and New York will play the first of a best-of-five ALDS series at Yankee Stadium, and the Yankees are -220 moneyline favorites on Bovada Sportsbook, while the total is set at 7 runs. These AL rivals have met six times this season, and the Yankees lead 5-1.

Guardians swept the Rays in the ALWC at home

The Cleveland Guardians defeated the Tampa Bay Rays in two low-scoring affairs in the ALWC series at home to advance to the ALDS. After beating Tampa Bay 2-1 in the series opener, the Guardians needed 15 innings to secure a 1-0 victory in Game 2. It was only the second time in MLB postseason history that we had a 0-0 tie going into the 15th inning.

We witnessed a defensively perfect game for 14 innings as both teams failed to get on the scoreboard until Oscar Gonzalez’s solo home run in the 15th which propelled the Guardians to the ALDS against the Yankees. Triston McKenzie pitched for 6.0 shutout innings with eight strikeouts and two walks in a no-decision. Sam Hentges was credited with a win.

Cal Quantrill (15-5) is getting a start against the Yankees in this ALDS opener on Tuesday. The 27-year-old right-hander had 32 starts this year and registered a 3.38 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, and 128/47 K/BB ratio in 186.1 innings.

Yankees split the series with the Rangers before the postseason

The New York Yankees won the AL East with a 99-63 record, seven wins ahead of the Toronto Blue Jays and 13 above the Tampa Bay Rays. Even though all three teams represented the division in the playoffs, the Yankees are left as the only ones after both Toronto and Tampa Bay were eliminated in the Wild Card series.

New York split the final series of the regular season with the Texas Rangers on the road. Following the two wins, the Yankees lost the next two games, scoring just four runs in those losses in the process. The Yankees scored both of their runs in the first four innings and that was all from them in a 4-2 loss to the Rangers. Domingo German dropped to a 2-5 record after allowing four runs on seven hits with six strikeouts and a walk in 4.1 innings. Jose Trevino was the only Yankee with a multi-hit display.

Gerrit Cole (13-8) will get on the bump as the Yankees meet the Guardians in the opening game of the ALDS on Tuesday. The 32-year-old right-hander started 33 games this season and has a 3.50 ERA, 1.02 WHIP, and a 257/50 K/BB ratio across 200.2 innings of work.

Trends:

Cleveland:

  • 2-8 in the last ten playoff games
  • 0-6 in the last six Divisional Playoff games
  • 0-4 in the last four Divisional Playoff road games

New York:

  • 12-5 in the last 17 overall
  • 11-5 in the last 16 playoff home games
  • 4-1 in the last five games following a loss

Cleveland Guardians and New York Yankees Pick

Cal Quantrill started one game (0-1) against the Yankees this season and had a 4.26 ERA in 6.1 innings, while Gerrit Cole had more success against the Guardians this year. He started two and won both games with a sublime 1.42 ERA over 12.2 innings. Quantrill is allowing a .324 batting average against the Yankees’ batters, while Cole allows .208 BA against Cleveland. The Yankees have a stronger lineup and I am pretty sure they will open this series with a win. After all, they beat the Guardians in five of six H2H meetings this year.

Pick: Take the Yankees at -1.5 Run Line (+105)

The Total

Gerrit Cole surrendered 2+ runs in each of his last five starts to end the regular season, and I wouldn’t be surprised if the Guardians score multiple runs off of him on Tuesday. Although the Guardians played two low-scoring affairs against Tampa in the ALWC, I don’t think it will be the case in this one. Over is 6-0 in Cole’s last six starts vs. AL Central rivals; Over is 4-1 in the previous five H2H meetings in New York, Over is 4-1 in the Guardians’ last five games vs. a right-handed starter, while Over is 7-2 in the Yankees’ previous nine playoff games.

Pick: Go Over 7 runs (-110)
