All 30 MLB teams will be back in action on Friday, September 23, including these two arch-rivals from the AL East, and here you can check out the best Red Sox vs. Yankees betting pick and odds.

Boston and New York will play the second of a four-game series at Yankee Stadium, and the Yankees are -210 moneyline favorites on BetUs Sportsbook, while the total is set at 8 runs. These AL East foes have met 15 times this year before this series, and the Yankees lead 9-6. Game 1 of this series will be played on Thursday night.

Red Sox split the series with the Reds

The Boston Red Sox continue to play in a hot and cold form as they lost eight of the previous 13 games and are definitely out of the postseason race with just two weeks of the regular season remaining. After opening a road series against the Cincinnati Reds with a 5-3 win, the Red Sox succumbed to a 5-1 defeat and now will face four divisional rivals in the final two weeks.

Connor Seabold is still looking for his first major league win as he dropped to a 0-3 record after surrendering four runs on six hits with four strikeouts and a walk in 5.0 innings. Alex Verdugo hit a sacrifice fly RBI in the 4th inning, but that was everything we saw from the Red Sox on offense here.

Rich Hill (7-7) will get a start for the 24th start of the year when he takes on the Yankees on Friday. The 42-year-old lefty has a 4.70 ERA, 1.34 WHIP, and 90/33 K/BB ratio in 107.1 innings of work.

Yankees swept the Pirates in a mini-series

The New York Yankees swept the Pittsburgh Pirates over a two-game mini-series at home, scoring even 23 runs in the process. Although they had problems in Game 1 as the Pirates showed strong resistance, the Yanks dominated in Game 2 with a 14-2 victory. How things stand in the AL, the Yankees cannot be the regular season champs, but they will most likely win their division.

The Yankees hit three home runs, including Oswaldo Cabrera’s grand slam in the opening inning. Gleyber Torres blasted a pair of homers and registered five RBIs, but Aaron Judge failed to hit the ball over the fence. Judge still stands at 60 homers for the season, one shy of the AL record set by Roger Maris in 1961. Luis Severino improved to a 6-3 record after allowing one run on two hits with six strikeouts and a walk over 5.0 innings.

Gerrit Cole will take the mound for the 31st time this year when he meets the Red Sox on Friday. The 32-year-old right-hander owns a respectable 3.41 ERA (highest in five years), 1.03, 236/47 K/BB ratio across 182.1 innings.

Trends:

Boston:

  • 17-38 in the last 55 vs. American League East rivals
  • 3-7 in the last ten road games vs. a right-handed starter

New York:

  • 7-2 in the last nine overall
  • 9-3 in the last 12 games with the total set at 7.0-8.5
  • 4-0 in the last four vs. American League East rivals

Boston Red Sox vs. New York Yankees Pick

Rich Hill is not enjoying this month as he allowed 13 runs in 17.2 innings in September, which is easily his worst month of the season. Interestingly, he didn’t face the Yankees this year, mostly because Boston’s manager Alex Cora wanted to keep him out of this tough matchup. The Yankees averaged .240 against southpaws with 5.48 runs scored per nine innings. Gerrit Cole is far from being impressive of late as he also experiences a bad month, but I am still backing the Yankees to get a comfortable win.

Pick: Take the Yankees at -1.5 Run Line (-110)

The Total

I mentioned Cole’s struggles in September; he has a season-high 4.58 ERA in September and has surrendered four runs in each of his previous two starts. Although he has a 2-0 record in four starts against Boston this year, Cole owns a bloated 5.48 ERA against them, so I am backing the Red Sox to score multiple runs off of Cole in this one. Over is 4-1 in the Yankees’ last five overall; Over is 4-0 in New York’s previous four home games, while Over is 7-1 in the Yankees’ last eight games with the total set at 7.0-8.5.

Pick: Go Over 8 runs (-110)
