After a slow Friday and just two games on the schedule, the NHL returns with a 14-game slate on Saturday, January 21, and here you can check out the best Coyotes vs. Stars betting pick and odds.

Dallas will open an eight-game homestay when they welcome Arizona at American Airlines Center. The Stars are -300 moneyline favorites on BookMaker Sportsbook, while the total is set at 6.5 goals. These divisional foes have met once this season, and the Stars won 7-2 in Arizona.

Coyotes returned to losing ways against the Capitals

The Arizona Coyotes (14-26-3-2, 24-21 ATS) managed to snap a nine-game losing skid with a shootout win over the Detroit Red Wings but returned to losing ways with a 4-0 home loss to the Washington Capitals. The Coyotes will take on the Stars away from home on Saturday and then will return to Arizona to host the Golden Knights, Ducks, and Blues. Arizona is only three points above the last-placed Chicago Blackhawks.

It was the second time this season that the Coyotes failed to score a goal. They attempted 26 shots toward Darcy Kuemper’s goal, but Washington’s goaltender stopped them all. So far in the campaign, Clayton Keller is the only Coyote among the top 100 point producers in the NHL with 38 (G 15, A 23).

Karel Vejmelka (11-17-4) is likely going to start between the sticks against Dallas on Saturday. The 26-year-old is allowing 3.36 goals per game this year along with a .902 SV% and two shutouts.

LW Andrew Ladd (knee) and LW Matias Maccelli (lower body) are out indefinitely and will not feature on Saturday in Dallas.

Stars beat the Kings to climb to the top of the West

The Dallas Stars (27-13-5-2, 28-19 ATS) are at the top of the Western Conference following a 4-0 road victory over the Los Angeles Kings. The Stars must feel happy after returning home from a three-game road trip on which they secured a pair of 4-0 wins and now have three shutout wins this season. Dallas currently has 61 points, 28 more than the Coyotes. The Stars will open their eight-game home stand with this tilt against Arizona.

Dallas scored three goals in the first period in Los Angeles, two of which came through Tyler Seguin, and added a fourth early in the second period. The Kings had 34 shots at Scott Wedgewood’s goal, but the goalie saved all of them and recorded his first shutout of the season. This year, Jason Robertson leads the Stars in points with 63 (G 31, A 32) and is 5th in the NHL in that regard. Joe Pavelski has 45 (G 14, A 31) and Roope Hintz contributed 44 points (G 19, A 25).

Jake Oettinger (20-7-4) is expected to start at the goal for Dallas against Arizona on Saturday. The 24-year-old is surrendering 2.26 goals per contest with a .924 SV% and three shutouts.

C Roope Hintz has been sidelined with an upper-body injury, and it is uncertain if he will return against the Coyotes on Saturday.

Trends:

Arizona:

  • 1-4 in the last five games following a home loss of three or more goals
  • 4-22 in the last 26 Saturday games

Dallas:

  • 5-2 in the last seven home games
  • 4-0 in the last four in the third game of a 3-in-4 situation
  • 8-2 in the last ten when their opponent scores two goals or less in their previous game

Arizona Coyotes vs. Dallas Stars Pick

Arizona is among the weakest teams in the NHL and I don’t think the Coyotes have a chance against Dallas on Saturday. The Stars have the second-best defense in the league that allows 2.60 goals per game, while their offense is in the top 10 as it averages 3.43 goals per contest. The Coyotes, on the other hand, are scoring 2.60 gpg and are allowing 3.62 gpg. Arizona lost each of the last 14 games on the road and this one is going to be the 15th straight.

Pick: Take the Stars at -1.5 Puck Line (-115)

The Total

The Stars are playing in a hot and cold form of late, but they should be able to score at least three or four goals here. I am not sure about the Coyotes, though, who have been struggling in front of the goal and scored 3+ goals just twice in the last nine games. I like Dallas’ defense and Jake Oettinger, who is allowing only 1.82 goals in six starts in January. Under is 25-12-2 in the last 39 H2H meetings; Under is 6-2 in the Coyotes’ previous eight overall, while Under is 18-7-1 in the Stars’ last 26 overall.

Pick: Go Under 6.5 goals (-110)
